I guess I can announce over here now that I wrote Frank/Gerard/Jamia domestic threesomes at the beach with a little D/s for seasoning because it's me. It's called By the sea.

Great challenge this year (as always!). There are still a bunch of stories I'm planning to read, so far they're a lot of fun. I might pick up a homeless spare prompt? We'll see...I still have my whole kink bingo card to work on plus lots of original-y things.

On that note, I went to an erotic writing workshop at the local sex-positive woman-owned sex shop! It was...okay. Super ultra beginner, so it wasn't quite right for me, but it was nice to do it in public, y'know? Plus we did a number of writing exercises that could potentially expand into longer stories, so we'll keep our fingers crossed.

Otherwise, LIFE. Maybe I'll give a full update another time, but mostly things are just...life-y. I sort of have a social life, which is still mystifying. I've been reading and watching the fall season start up (Definitely Watching: HIMYM, Sleepy Hollow, Agents of SHIELD).

I guess I'm in kind of a monthly posting pattern now...for once, I've actually been busy and not too boring to post anything!

New job is still going well...I really enjoy it and I think that my goal is to go full-time there. I still love editorial work, but the magazine just doesn't give me the same feeling. My total lack of interest in the topic doesn't help, of course, but the tourism job makes me feel connected to my city. I get to be involved in the arts community! And there are definitely perks too >_> My boss actually just left a week ago, which was sad...I didn't know him long, but he was a good boss and a really cool guy. And now I have to be nervous that the new director won't like me! Fun!

Otherwise, I'm doing pretty good on a social front (shock of shocks). I'm hanging out more with K's bookstore friends. A big group of us went to bar trivia this week, and I actually hung with two of them, just us, at a really cool party on Friday. Apparently a gang of bookstore people are going to House on the Rock for a Halloween-y picnic, and we got invited to that. I saw Much Ado with K & my sister and LOVED it. Still doing bookclub. Family stuff too! I feel so busy.

Ugh, what else? I got super into Hannibal, so happy it got renewed & so sad I have to wait a year for more. WILL GRAHAM ;___; K & I are planning to go to Disney World & Wizarding World in the fall, which will be my first real inter-state trip on my own (first time on a plane without my parents!). Should be a good time.

I'm working veryyyyy slowlyyy on my BBB, gotta get my rear in gear on that. K and I also started a collaborative Harry Potter fic project, 36 Views of Hogwarts. It's been a lot of fun - if you like character-centric short fictions, check it out :)

Hope everyone is having a good start to their summer...I'm still around & reading, though crap at commenting as per usual.

HELLO. this thing exists, huh?

Life is going pretty good. I'm quite enjoying my new job (well, the actual day to day of new job is easy if a bit repetitive, but I really like the overall project and it's cool to have a job that involves receptions/mixers/art community~~~ events/causes people to randomly connect to you on LinkedIn). I also seem to have accidentally developed some semblance of a social life? I have my book club every month, and the Harry Potter party every month. K (the roomie) and I went out to brunch with some college friends (friends of hers, really, I only vaguely knew them) who are good and fun people. Then it was K's birthday, so we went out for dinner with some of her coworkers and accidentally ended up playing bar trivia. And it was a lot of fun, so when a nerd bar (FOR REAL) opened up downtown, the same coworkers joined us to go check out the grand opening. Which was also a lot of fun. I had a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, and I'd like to go back.

I've also had an upswing in family-ing. We had an early Mother's Day with my grandparents on Sunday since my aunt was coming up from Texas, then my aunt and her partner came up to Milwaukee to see lil sis's school and my apartment. We're having proper Mother's Day on...Mother's Day at home and I've been assigned the task of making the hollandaise sauce. It'll be my first attempt at a proper sauce, so hopefully it doesn't break and ruin the day!!! HA HA HA.

Besides that, I've been really into Hannibal lately (PLEASE get renewed) and creepin around on the kink meme like a big creeper. Tumblr and Candy Crush Saga make up most of the rest of my time, tbh. It's not a bad life.

So I was gonna post and then stuff kept HAPPENING and...yeah. Here I am now so buckle your seatbelts.

1. I got a new job! I saw the posting and was like "that is so me" and it was the only job I applied for and...I got it :) It's a marketing assistant gig with Milwaukee's tourism bureau. I'm really excited - I start next Monday. It takes the place of temp job, I'll still be at the magazine; also, I realized that this will be the first time in my life that I'll be working permanent full time. At two different places, sure, but...it's a nice thought! Hopefully it goes well.

2. Madison: I went to visit a dear college roomie at her new home in Madison! While I was there, I got to meet were_duck (woo!), drink butterbeers, watch AVPSY, and laugh a lot. It's going to be so nice to have friends so close (she used to live 5+ hours away).

3. Cross stitch: I did my first cross stitch project! I posted about it a lot on instagram. It was a lot of fun and pretty quick...I enjoyed it, I definitely will plan on doing another one.

4. MCR. Yeah. I'm...okay? I was really upset the night it happened, but things have settled some. All the guys are still here, all the music is still here. And Gerard has helped the okay-feeling by being an absolute doll on Twitter all week. ♥ I'm still planning on writing everything I wanted to write.

5. Submission: I submitted a piece to an anthology of queer Shakespeare-inspired erotica! Fingers crossed :) If it doesn't get in, I'll probably put it on AO3.

anddd...that's about it, I guess! I've been having vague thoughts about tattoos lately, but nothing solid. Easter was very nice, good family time. And this Thursday will be my last day at temp job! Crazy to think I'e been there for over a year, longest I've ever worked somewhere.

I've got a really drippy cold going on right now which only occurs in the mornings which is...exciting? Mostly annoying. Shmer. Works are fine...new issue of the magazine just got printed, so I'm busier than normal getting all our web content ready to go/sending out comp copies to contributors/all that good kind of stuff. Law job is nutty as usual.

I had a job interview on Friday! I think it went well? It's hard to judge, I dunno. The position is really well-suited to my experience, so that's nice. I was the last of 5 people to be interviewed. They're calling references this week and are hoping to make a decision end of this week/early next week, so...fingers crossed!

Also on Friday, I attended another Harry Potter party! One of K's workfriends throws them and...it's a lot of fun? Basically we eat food, take VERY LENGTHY quizzes about Harry Potter, drink butterbeers, and have the movie on in the background while we do a craft. This month was Prisoner of Azkaban themed and we decoupaged boxes/coasters with PoA/Marauders themed stuff. And I won the quiz!! I got a gorgeous time turner necklace (this girl really goes all out with the party planning), so I was very pleased with myself.

Saturday I watched all of Jekyll which...started out vaguely intriguing and then just got dumber and dumber as it went on. Oh, Moffat. Sunday morning I totally failed at Daylight Savings Time, but K and I made it to brunch anyway. We went to Honeypie, which is great, and I had french toast with a peach/blueberry compote, fresh whipped cream, and candied pecans. Nom. That afternoon I went to my parents' house for a spaghetti dinner and got to visit with my sister, who is home on spring break (jellyyyy).

I'm going to Madison this weekend? Apparently? One of my BFFs/former-roomies just moved down there and asked if I wanted to come up so...I'm going to! It's really weird (but awesome!) to have her actually live within weekend trip "pop by and visit" distance. And since Starkid was kind enough to decide to post AVPSY on youtube this weekend - I forsee more brunch and lots of Starkid in our future!

I continued in my theme of actually doing stuff this weekend (whodathunk it?)! My roomie K came home from work on Friday and asked me if I wanted to go to a drag show Saturday night. The answer was, of course, HELL YES.

It was a good time! We met up with some people we went to college with who K had been friends with and I sort of knew, but it wasn't awkward, everyone was super friendly and it was nice to be around multiple people of my age group for a change. The show was at a college, and it was FREE, and because of both of those things, it was fucking packeddddddd. It was standing room only by the time we got in and some people didn't even fit in to stand. My feet were killing me (we'd walked for 20 min to get to the show from the friends' apartment) but motherfucking drag queens & kings \o/ I've been watching Drag Race, of course, but there's nothing like seeing a live performance. I actually knew one of the kings from high school, so it was neat to get to see him performing for the first time! There were some awesome queens, super impressive, and a bunch of people left at intermission so we snagged some seats \o/ Which made things more enjoyable. One of the queens sang songs from Rocky Horror live and was SO good, and one queen lost her wig from dancing too hard but just kept going and was FIERCE, and oh god, one queen was wearing like...NOTHING. I've seen body queens on tv, but I never thought I would see one IRL but...goddamn. The whole way home K and I were like HOW DID SHE DO THAT????

anddd yesterday was surprisingly productive? I watched a ton of Slings & Arrows, but I also cleaned the bathroom, did dishes, roasted a chicken with dressing (turned out okay...not my best, but still tasty), did the laundry, AND watched the Oscars. Oscars were...unimpressive. Whatever. I knew I wouldn't be impressed with the hosting (jerk) but, eh, whatever. I feel like the Oscars is always awkward and disappointing - you'd think that the ~Hollywood elite~ would spend some time writing decent bits and crafting a decent show to celebrate themselves. They do love that. OH WELL.

balls cold

ampersandjay: Photo of stacks and stacks of books in front of bookshelves (GEN | reading)
Newsflash: it is still fucking cold in Wisconsin. Jeez. I know I do this every year, but how can winter be so LONG? It's like it never ends. We keep inching closer and closer to something resembling spring (or even just not being FREEZE YOUR FACE OFF cold) and then slide back into a swimming pool filled with ice cubes. Naked. Harsh, Wisco.

In other news, I went to see roller derby! It was one of the things on my list of STUFF I SHOULD DO so I was super proud of myself for pulling it together and actually doing it. It was super fun too, I'm hoping to go back (possibly with my sister) to see the March bouts. I keep forgetting how close I actually am to downtown...it's literally like 10 minutes from my door to the heart of the city, which is pretty great. I even had the parking gods smile on me and let me into a pay lot for free on derby night. I was anxious about my car being towed the whole time, but nothing bad happened! Just a free ride - thanks faulty parking kiosk! The rollergirls were beyond cool, and I want to be one so bad. I'm wayyyy too unbalance/unathletic/generally wimpy for it though; as if to remind me of this fact, I scraped my hand on the couch while sitting on it the same day I went to the bout. Obviously anything where I need to move and people are TRYING to injure me is not gonna fly. I'm content to watch and cheer.

What else? People around my age came to my door at like 7pm while I was making dinner to talk to me about AT&T. What a crappy job that would be. I still have no idea what I'll do when law job ends, but I also have no idea WHEN law job will end so that works out okay. I applied to one job that would be right up my alley and allow me to work from home (cue heavenly choir) so fingers crossed for that.

This weekend I am going to attempt to roast a chicken with homemade dressing - I have done this before, but I've never CARVED a chicken, so that should be an adventure. I intend to make stock out of the carcass and am considering attempting a leek and potato galette to go with it (as a follow-up to stuffing). I'm a mad chef!
